Developing a Custom Wordpress Website with an Interactive Campus Tour
4mation was tasked to build a custom WordPress website with a high-impact visual design, a responsive layout, and a custom interactive tour.
The story
Pymble Ladies’ College is an independent school for girls situated on Sydney’s upper North Shore, with almost one hundred years of history and over two thousand students at present. The College approached 4mation Technologies to replace their dated website with a fresh new cutting-edge portal that would set them aside from their competitors, attract new enrolments and keep their existing school community informed.
The challenge
As part of the College’s year-long hundredth anniversary celebrations in 2016, Pymble Ladies’ College commissioned 4mation Technologies to develop a dedicated Centenary website. An extension of their existing website built by 4mation, the centenary microsite showcases the College’s rich history via an interactive timeline that offers visitors a virtual “trip down memory lane”.
Divided into ten decade blocks from 1916 to 2016, the timeline showcases Pymble’s major milestones with photographs of the College, students and staff from each era, infographics on the growth of the student population, stories from members of the Pymble community, and profiles on various Principals at each stage of the College’s history.
The microsite also invites users to participate via attending events and activities being held throughout 2016, to donate to the Centenary Foundation by ordering an inscribed brick to be placed within the Centenary Walkway – or to connect via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to share their own stories from the past century.
By utilising responsive design, the website provides an optimum user experience across a range of devices including desktop computers, tablets and smartphones. An additional feature that will be added to the website over the coming months is an eCommerce component that will allow visitors to purchase a special edition book and other Centenary memorabilia.
The result
4mation developed a custom WordPress website with a high-impact visual design, a responsive layout to optimise viewing on various screen sizes and hosting on Amazon’s AWS servers to maximise page loading speeds. The website provides College staff with the ability to update and manage their own news and events, but perhaps the most impressive feature 4mation developed for the website is the custom Interactive Tour.
Offering visitors the chance to explore the campus by clicking, dragging and zooming their way through an illustrated map, this interactive tool showcases the many world-class facilities and programs available to students.
